Boaters Heard Baby Raccoon’s Cries And Searched For Hours To Rescue Him

A group of boaters in Maryland celebrating the Fourth of July helped a juvenile raccoon that was frantically pleading for assistance.

To help the animal cling on while being rescued, a clever crew member thought toss down a life jacket. They started tugging the raccoon back to land while it was still holding onto the life preserver, then they gave him to a zodiac to return to land.

One of the boaters, Peter, describes the incident on YouTube: "During the early morning hours of July 4, 2016, one of our crew aboard our boat heard a yelping sound and at first it seemed like birds overhead."

A little raccoon was treading water on the side of the boat many hours after we first heard the call. We tossed it a life preserver to get on since we didn't want to pull it out of the water, and we then pulled it to land.
