Since he first appeared on our television screens in the 1940s, actor Dick
Van Dyke has been regarded as a long-time industry treasure. Notably, he
received a Tony Award for his performance in the first "Bye Bye Birdie"
production in 1961. Van Dyke became a household name on television because
to his role as the lead of his own series, "The Dick Van Dyke Show," which
ran in the early 1960s. Van Dyke would go on to play for audiences in such
timeless films as "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and "Mary Poppins," two parts
that made him popular with a generation of young people.
Van Dyke's career would eventually last an incredible seven decades, as the
seasoned actor kept working well into his senior years. Van Dyke received
several honors throughout the years as a result of his commitment to his
profession, including five Primetime Emmy Awards, one Tony Award, and a
Grammy Award. In addition, Van Dyke received a star on the Hollywood Walk of
Fame in 1993 and was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1995. Van
Dyke was given the Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest award bestowed by
the Screen Actors Guild, in 2013.
It's hardly surprising that Van Dyke has received a few honors and has had
a great influence on others in the business, his domestic fans, and even his
own family given his career spanning seven decades. Van Dyke has included
his family in his television activities and has four children and seven
grandchildren.
At the age of 97, Van Dyke had a relaxing Father's Day celebration at home
with the people he cared about. Van Dyke made everyone's hearts flutter with
happiness in an adorable Instagram photo he published to commemorate the

Morning praised Van Dyke as having elastic-limbed, perfect timing, and being
noted for his physical humorous performance. I had always admired Buster
Keaton and Laurel and Hardy, Van Dyke said to the program. I practiced
falling as a child. And I had figured everything out.
Although the actor's Broadway performance in "Bye Bye Birdie" and
subsequent roles in "Dick Van Dyke Show" were his earliest claims to fame,
"Mary Poppins" is where he is most known to younger viewers.
Since February 29, 2012, Van Dyke has been wed to Arlene Silver, his
current spouse. At the SAG Awards, the two people first met six years ago.
At the time, make-up artist Silver was 40 years old, while Van Dyke was
86.
Van Dyke responded when asked about the 46-year disparity in their ages: "I
often forget that we're undertaking a fantastic experiment here. And to some
extent, we make an effort to comprehend what old behaviors no longer
function and identify them. Although it requires some getting used to,
that's all part of the enjoyment.
Van Dyke has been incredibly open and transparent about his life,
particularly his battle with alcoholism. On "The Dick Cavett Show" in 1974,
he discussed the addiction.
"By the time I knew I was in danger, like the majority of alcoholics, I was
too delusional to comprehend what was wrong with me. My buddies used to call
me crazy. But it appeared to — it appeared to assist several individuals.
'You know, if you can do it, I can do it,' I received a lot of
correspondence from folks,' Van Dyke said Cavett.
Van Dyke is currently 97 years old and has been sober for many years. The
National Father's Day Committee selected Van Dyke Father of the Year in
1967. The Father of the Year Award is given annually by the National
Father's Day Committee, a division of the Father's Day/Mother's Day Council,
to a leader in our culture's contemporary lifestyle whose life is devoted to
family, citizenship, altruism, civility, responsibility, and
reverence.
In a 2016 interview with The Guardian, Van Dyke said that parenting wasn't
always easy.
"I tried to provide a positive example for my kids, but for 25 years, I was
an alcoholic. When I started treatment, I discovered I was doing the same
faults my father had," he confessed to the magazine.
The television legend said that he was with his family in a poignant
Instagram message. In a photograph and a video, Van Dyke and his family were
seen congregating in the living room.
Van Dyke recorded his realizations in the caption:
"When I initially started having children, I had no idea what I was getting
into. The fact that I have lived long enough to celebrate Father's Day with
some of my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, however, amazes
and makes me glad. All great, non-harmful individuals! I'm a very happy
guy!! @wesvandyke_fineart And to share it all with my greatest gift
@bijoubox in our lovely fairyland @vandymanor."
Notably, Van Dyke had four kids with his late ex-wife Margie Willet, all of
whom are now grown. They were Carrie Beth, Christian, Barry, and Stacy Van.
Early in their lives, each of them appeared in their own Hollywood debuts on
their father's television programs, "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "Diagnosis:
Murder," and "The New Dick Van Dyke Show."
