Barrymore began going to Hollywood events when she was just nine years old
while growing up there. Barrymore battled drinking and drug addiction while
being relatively young as her celebrity after "ET" grew.
Young Barrymore became a drug addict as a result of encountering the
decadence of substance misuse that was common in some Hollywood circles.
When she was 13, her mother eventually sent her to treatment, and after many
months there, she was able to get sober again. The star's journey through
addiction and sobriety would begin, followed by numerous stages. Barrymore
made an attempt on her own life within a year and was once again confined to
mental health treatment.

Barrymore spent two months in Crosby's home after leaving the mental health
facility her mother had checked her into, as she detailed in a 2015
interview with Howard Stern. Barrymore said Crosby, who had his own
"problems," a "interesting character." She continued by telling Stern about
her "pretty wild" lifestyle when she was a resident at his house.
Barrymore acknowledged that she was grateful for the year and a half she
spent at the rehab facility, comparing it to entering the military and "boot
camp," despite the difficulties she had as a youngster.
Crosby told how he and Barrymore met just as the troubled young actress was
due to be released from rehab in a June 2021 interview with Stern.
They said, "Oh, s—. She was at a facility managed by a friend of ours. Her
insurance is about to expire. We'll have to make her go. She isn't prepared,
too. She must find a secure location, Crosby remembered to Stern.
Crosby said that they brought Barrymore to school and made every effort to
have a positive effect on him.
He said, "I think we were loving and kind, and it felt good to do." You
attempt things but are unsure of how they will turn out. That one seems to
work. I believe she evolved into a kind and responsible human being.
Sadly, according to a statement from his family, Crosby passed away on
January 18, 2023, "after a long illness." In the Kyle Meredith With...
podcast, Graham Nash disclosed that Crosby passed away as a result of
COVID-19 problems. Following his passing, admirers paid tribute to the
adored actor on social media, remembering the generosity he had shown to
Barrymore when she was younger.
